Background

EKD Systems, an experienced manufacturer of energy chains and energy chain systems, was awarded a contract by Maschinentechnik Roth GmbH & Co. KG, a company with nearly five decades of experience in the steel and rolling mill industry. The contract involved equipping the so-called Core Hole Drilling, Setting, and Grouting Plant (KBSE), a mobile drilling equipment, with energy chains or drag chains. This specialized drilling equipment was designed to be used in oxygen steel plants and posed the highest performance requirements on the energy chains used therein, operating under conditions such as extreme contamination, heat exposure, and strong vibrations during the drilling and setting process.

Machine Application

The machine's purpose is to bore the tapping hole in the steel converter and then insert new refractory bricks into it. It ensures that hydraulic and water hoses, as well as electrical cables, are securely guided to the consumer using the energy chains.

Role of the Energy Drag Chain

EKD Systems provided two high-quality energy chains of type SLP for Maschinentechnik Roth's mobile drilling equipment. The selected drag chains were the SLP 525 and SLP 325, both equipped with guiding troughs. One energy chain was specially designed for the drilling process, while the other supported the setting process.
